A Historic Country Retreat

since 1828

A Grand Federation homestead awaits you for your stay. Charles Boydell settled here and established Camyr Allyn in 1828. This beautiful historic farm situated in the Barrington region of the Hunter Valley with breath taking views of the Allyn River Valley. Nearby historic towns of Morpeth and Paterson offer art, craft and antique shops with numerous restaurants and cafes on offer.

For nature lovers there are walks through the countryside and Barrington Tops to be explored and enjoyed, picnics by pristine, platypus filled rivers, and an abundance of native Australian wildlife and birds to enjoy in their natural surrounds. At Camyr Allyn Homestead, you can sit on the veranda at sunset to watch the kangaroos graze nearby and the birdlife in our surrounding trees is unrivaled.

For adventurers, there are a plethora of mountain biking and golfing options in the vicinity, Lostock Dam for boating and incredible scenery to enjoy horse-riding.

For the foodies, Pokolbin with all its viticulture and culinary delights is only a stones-throw away and I expect you will be planning at least one visit there during your stay.  There are also some local restaurants to explore though for the most convenient and possibly the most fun, consider enjoying a home-cooked meal in our beautiful dining room.   Click on the Catering Options tab to find out more of what we have to offer.  If something grabs you or you have any special requests for party planning or picnic hampers, please notify us in advance so we can be well prepared and make your stay special.

We are also well-placed for a lunch spot on the way to or from Camyr Allyn Homestead when driving from Sydney.

Gatherings

Whether it is a special birthday or family celebration, Camyr Allyn Homestead is the perfect location for your next gathering. There are multiple options for seated dining, and loads of nooks and spaces for intimate conversations and catch ups.

Our favourite weekends here with friends and family involve extended pool & spa time with pizzas fresh from the oven, long-lunches on the veranda, walks to the river and cheese platters fireside. We often head to Dungog for mountain-biking with the kids or meet friends in Polkolbin for lunch on-route for adults only weekends.

If you desire a catered stay, please see our current catering on the booking page.

Workshops

For over 30 years, Camyr Allyn Homestead has been hosting more than two dozen weekend or midweek workshops. Each group includes up to 12 people, sometimes with a recognised expert in the field as a tutor/mentor. Workshops include all accommodation and three meals a day plus morning and afternoon tea and “happy hour” as well as plenty of time and space for starting or completing all manner of projects.

If you have your own special interest group that would like to get away together to enjoy pursuing your interests, whilst being pampered and catered by our Camyr Allyn team, please contact us.

Some groups have been coming to Camyr Allyn Homestead every year for over 30 years, and additional groups are forming all the time. The Homestead has seen some funny times and we have met some wonderful people. We look forward to welcoming your group soon.

Weddings

There is no better place to get married.

Whilst we have hosted weddings up to 250 people, currently we can only cater for weddings up to approximately 50 people. The Homestead can sleep up to 12 people, but there is a plethora of fabulous accommodation in the area. You are welcome to bring in your own caterers or if you are getting married in the area, perhaps use the Homestead for your bridal party dinner or morning after breakfast get together poolside.
